Museums and top attractions in Stockholm
In Stockholm you can visit over 70 different museums. If you decide to visit many of them, it may be worth considering buying the Stockholm Card that includes the entrance for all the museums and public transports. For more information about the card and other options and offers ask at the tourist office upon your arrival. There are two main tourist bureaus in Stockholm where you can book a hotel, get info about tourism in Stockholm and buy a map of the city. One is located in the central station (Hotellcentralen) and the other one in Kungsträdgården (Stockholm Tourist centre). When you arrive from your flight with the coach or train from the airport at Stockholm central station, you can easily find the tourist information on the entrance floor.
Skansen open air museum and zoo
On the most visited of Stockholm’s 14 different islands, Djurgården, you can find the very worthwhile open-air museum with more than hundred preserved traditional houses from centuries ago, and a zoo with both Scandinavian and exotic animals.
There is also an aquarium that is worth visiting even if you have to pay a separate entrance. From here you also have one of the best views of the city. You also find a restaurant and a little fun fair for the younger visitors. Skansen is normally open until very late during summer time, so it could be a tip to visit other sights and museums first and then end the day with a walk in this green and relaxing oasis in the middle of the city of Stockholm. Remember to ware comfortable shoes since the area is quite big.

Gröna Lund
Amusement Park "Green groove" attracts both children and adults, opens from May till September. If you dare to try the attraction called “free fall”, you will for sure have a fantastic view over the entire city. At Gröna Lund you can also see many of the most famous Swedish artists playing concerts during the summer time.

The Vasa Museum
The main attraction here is the war ship constructed in early 17th century, restored into a museum. The Vasa ship was built in order to participate in a war, however it sank on its maiden voyage and was recovered 300 years later from the sea and has now come to be the most visited museum in Stockholm. Besides the impressive ship itself, it is also worth seeing the film in the museum that shows how the restoration of the ship was done, and another interesting exhibition is the part where they show how life was on board on these kinds of ships at that time.

Kungliga Slottet (The Royal Palace)
This very centric and worth visiting palace is today the working place of His Majesty, whereas the residence of the royal family is near to Stockholm in Drottningholm. In the Royal Palace you can visit the Reception Rooms that have conserved the design from the 18th and 19th centuries. Then there is the Hall of State and the Apartments of the Orders of Chivalry. Please note that one or more floors can temporarily be closed when the Palace or apart of it is used for daily work by employees of the royal court. A part from these main floors of the palace you can also see Gustav III:s Museum of Antiquities, Tre Kronor Museum and The Treasury. Every day at noon there is the change of the guards in front of the entrance. This is worth seeing especially in the summer season when the parade consists also of horses and orchestra. During the winter the change of the guards takes place in a quieter manner.

The City Hall
Imposing building in national romantic style built in the beginning of the last century and famous for the Nobel Prize banquet. Admission to the City Hall for guided tours only. There are knowledgeable guides available in several languages depending on the hour you decide to visit the hall. From the tower you have a magnificent view besides from a collection of plaster sculptures. Especially worth seeing is the golden hall where the dance is held at the Nobel party.
Please note that tours may be cancelled when the rooms are in use for political purposes or representation. All the halls are accessible also with wheel chair. There is a restaurant and a souvenir shop on the ground floor.

Kulturhuset (Cultural space) Stockholm
This very centric glass building is a modern center featuring three galleries with exhibitions on photography, multimedia, art, fashion, music, dance and theatre. There is also a library where you can read books and newspapers also from different countries. Next to the ground floor entrance there is a creative store where you can look at and if you wish buy inventions created by modern designers. The shop is called Designtorget. On the same floor you can also find an Internet café, rest rooms and public telephones. On the top floor there is a restaurant and café where you have a beautiful view over Stockholm.

National Museum of Natural History
This Museum located near the Stockholm University displays nature and environment and increases people's understanding of nature and its diversity. This is an exiting place to visit also for younger people, since you can try different inventions and tests of human performance and behaviour. At the National Museum of Natural History is also situated Cosmonova, a planetarium which is also a huge IMAX theater. For shows it is advisable to book the tickets in advance.

The National Museum
National collection of paintings, sculptures, handicrafts, drawings and graphics. Here you can see paintings from Swedish painters, and also famous foreign ones like Rubens, Rembrandt and Goya. Check the web site for possible updates and also for temporary exhibitions.

Junibacken
Meet the characters from Swedish children's books. Take the small train inside that will take you on an amazing journey to Astrid Lindgren's world. If you are familiar with this well-known child book writer of the last century, both children and adults will enjoy a visit in this creative and colorful house.

Storkyrkan
The cathedral of Stockholm was constructed in the 1300th century and is a Lutheran church. In this majestic medieval church you can listen to concerts, get married and baptize your child a part from attending to services.

Gamla Stan (Old town)
On this little island the history of Stockholm started about 800 years ago. A part from the Royal Palace and the Cathedral you can also find beautiful antique buildings, narrow streets and picturesque bars and cafes. There are two main streets around the island sides that meet each other and create a circle, Västerlånggatan and Österlånggatan. On these streets there are shops, restaurants and souvenirs. Don’t forget to visit the great market (Stortorget) where you can see medieval buildings in different colors. There is a company that organizes walkabouts in the old town, Stockholm Sightseeing, you can buy the ticket at the ticket booth outside the Opera house in Gustav Adolfs Torg. Sightseeing by boat
If you want a short getaway from the main city center, in Stockholm there are numerous ways of visiting the city by sightseeing by boat, bus or walking in the Old Town. It is definitively worth visiting Stockholm by boat since the city is constructed upon 14 different islands that are connected by around 50 bridges. You can also go for an excursion in the archipelago, and visit one of the thousands of islands that are surrounding the city.
